DURING PREGNANCY:
- I'm expecting more than one baby.
- My baby has a genetic disorder or a malformation and I would like some advice and support to breastfeed him/her.
- Breastfeeding didn't go well with my first (2nd, 3rd…) baby, and I would like to have a more positive experience this time around.
- I am adopting a baby and I would like to breastfeed him/her.
- I have had breast surgery (reduction, augmentation, etc.)
AFTER THE BIRTH:
- My baby's urine is concentrated and has a strong odour.
- My baby wets few diapers.
- My baby has less than 1 bowel movement per day of life in the first week.
- My baby's suction is rapid and superficial, and I'm not sure he/she is swallowing.
- My baby falls asleep at the breast without really suckling (breast in the mouth, but does not swallow) and sleeps a lot between feedings or is difficult to wake for feedings.
- Feedings regularly last more than 1 hour.
- My baby refuses the breast / cries constantly / seems unsatisfied at the end of feedings.
- My nipples are sore, damaged or cracked.
- My breasts have been engorged for more than 48 hours and the situation has not improved or worsens in spite of frequent and efficient feedings (every 1-1½ hours) and/or my breasts are so distended that my baby is unable to latch on.
- I have a fever/shivers/flu-like symptoms, and part of my breast is hot/red/painful.
- My baby lost a lot of weight after birth, and has been gaining little/no weight since we came home from the hospital.
- I want to breastfeed my premature/ill baby and I need advice on how to establish and maintain my milk supply.
- My doctor prescribed some medication and I want to know if it is safe to continue breastfeeding. (Most medications are compatible with breastfeeding)
- I need to undergo a medical exam or procedure and I want to know if the intervention requires me to stop breastfeeding. (In the vast majority of cases, breastfeeding can continue)
- I am returning to work and I want to continue to breastfeed my baby.
- I am tired, discouraged, and I need support.
- I have questions/concerns and I would like to talk to someone about it.
- If you feel that you need help and support, don't wait to call someone who can help!
